Algeria gets hit by strong earthquake

(MENAFN) A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Tebessa Province in eastern Algeria at 20:11 local time (1911 GMT) on Sunday, according to reports from local seismic authorities.

The epicenter was located 10 km southeast of Negrine in Tebessa Province. A second tremor, measuring 4.7 in magnitude, followed at 20:22 local time (1922 GMT), with its epicenter 26 km southeast of Negrine.

The quake was felt in nearby areas including Khenchela, Souk Ahras, and El Oued. Authorities have not reported any damage or casualties so far.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 5.1-magnitude earthquake 47 km west of Chebika, Tunisia, at the same time (1911 GMT), with an epicenter depth of 10 km.
